FIRE DETECTION

PREVENT DANGER AND INJURY

Reliable fire detection systems provide the earliest possible warning and ensure the safety of buildings. This automatic system quickly detects and localizes a fire so it can directly be extinguished. A fire detection system with alarm components, such as flashing lights and sirens, immediately warn the personnel on duty. Therefore, not only humans and animals can be brought to safety, but it also prevents damage to buildings.

Choosing the right system depends on your surroundings or users. An expensive system is not essentially better or more reliable. Also a quick alarm response is important. Moreover, you may decide whether the system’s main objective is reducing damages or escape route detection. Certified technicians provide the right solution to make the right choice.

HOW DOES A FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM WORK?

If the system detects a fire this is immediately displayed on the alarm control panel and the fire alarm will sound. The panel displays the location of the fire and personnel (according to registered settings in the system) are immediately warned or called-up.

You can pre-set control signals and can switch on the alarm system for evacuation, close fire doors, switch off vent systems or control fire extinguishing systems. Larger companies also have an automatic notification system to warn the fire-brigade.

DETECTING AND EXTINGUISH A FIRE

Fire detection systems automatically detect fires but do not extinguish fires. The purpose of a fire detection system is to warn the people, to give them time to flee and to keep the damage as low as possible. Reliable fire separation walls and expected fire-spread velocities by the applied construction materials are important factors in damage limitation.

Fire extinguishing systems are available as sprinkler systems or gas fire installations. The design and the installation of a fire extinguishing system is provided on a customized basis. For your own safety, it is recommendable that specialists install the fire detection systems and fire distinguish systems.

BEAM DETECTORS AND POINT DETECTORS

Detectors are available in many models and operational principles. The operation principles can be distinguished by point detectors or beam detectors. Unlike point detectors, beam detectors can be placed at any location between two points. An infrared beam can detect smoke or air vibrations by means of a transmitter and receiver. A twin-cable can detect fire because it melts at a certain temperature causing short circuit.

WHAT IS A FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM?

In the Netherlands automatic fire detection systems need to comply with the stipulations of the NEN 2535 Directive, which also refers to NEN-EN 54. The engineers at Beemster Electrical Solutions will advise you and ensure which installation is the best for your situation. Please feel free to contact us.

An automatic fire detection system consists of an alarm system and a notification system, detectors and wiring. The following parts detect fire and send signals to other installations:

• Fire detectors of smoke (smoke detectors)
• Fire detectors of heat (heat detectors, differential heat detector, maximum heat detector)
• Fire detectors of radiation (radiation detector, UV-detector, infrared detector)
• Beam detectors
• Manually-operated fire alarm
• VESDA systems (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus)
• Fire detection system (including monitoring and signaling)
• Notification systems (extinguish notification)

WHICH FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM DO YOU CHOOSE?

When you are considering the purchase of a fire detection system first of all determine what your requirements are. If you want to increase the safety of users, personnel and visitors, an automatic fire detection system is sufficient.

If you want to prevent damage than probably a standard detection system is not enough. The system also depends on the available water resources, extinguishing systems, the fire-brigade and speed of response. To mitigate damage you need to examine all these factors in order to determine how the complete system must function.
